Learn the colors in Chinese

When you learn Mandarin, you’ll see that colors in Chinese are expressed by adding the particle 色 (sè) to the name of the color. This allows to differentiate the name of the color (颜色 [yánsè]) per se from another noun that that has that color.

For example, in English we have the color “orange” and the fruit with the same name. Well, it is in order to avoid that confusion that colors in Chinese carry the particle 色 (sè).
