The popularity of everything Korean is rising at a fast speed. As a result, more and more people have decided to study the Korean language to become better acquainted with this magnificent culture.

Companies that want to expand their market, entrepeneurs, K-pop and k-drama lovers, parents who want to invest in their children future... the amount of people studying Korean language is greater than ever.

Korean language in the economy

Despite the blow that the year 2020 had on the global economy, many South Korean companies increased their sales.

In fact, 22 Korean companies are among the world's top 1000 fastest growing companies according to the Forbes Global 2000 list. These include Samsung, which is in the top 20, Hyundai, LG Electronics and KIA Motors.

It goes without saying much about the impact that including your knowledge of Korean may have on your resume. It will make you stand out in any job interview! It is not a minor detail, considering the global expansion of these Korean companies and the need for employees who speak both English and Korean.

Korean language in pop culture

For some time now, we’ve been hearing about the "Korean wave". This is a new expression, translated from Korean 한류 (hallyu), that encompasses the global expansion that Korean culture is having. In fact, you reading this article proves that the wave has reached you.

Perhaps the main way hallyu moves is through the world of entertainment. Do you remember when Gangnam Style appeared in 2012? Surely you do, and most probably you even tried to learn the moves of the choreography! Just on YouTube the video clip has more than 4 billion views.

That gives you a glimpse of the worldwide impact that the k-pop movement is having, which is just one exponent of Korean music. Now add to that k-dramas, which already have their own category on platforms like Netflix...

After the triumph of the film Parasite at the 2020 Oscars, no one can deny that the industry of Korean-language entertainment, more than a wave, is a tsunami.

Now that's not all that hallyu brings. Korean cuisine, for example, is conquering even the most demanding palates. And that’s because, frankly, Korean food is delicious.

The world of Korean cosmetics is also conquering other continents. Of course, it’s a «country brand» too: k-beauty.—In case you haven't figured it out yet, the "k" stands for "Korea";)

And don't forget tourism!

As if it wasn’t enough to talk about the international economic and cultural expansion of the Korean wave to lure you into learning Korean, South Korea is a beautiful country.

Visiting South Korea is a worthwhile project. The country has so much to offer! Arts, sports, delicious cuisine, beautiful natural landscapes, vibrant cities like Seoul… Did you know that you even have the opportunity to dress up in traditional Korean clothes (한복; hanbok) and take a walk while enjoying a complete Korean experience?

Where can you learn Korean?

There are a variety of books to learn Korean. But since it's a language that is not simple, especially if you do not have knowledge of other Asian languages such as Chinese or Japanese, my advice is that you study Korean with the aid of native teachers or with a lot of experience in the language.

At our school of Asian languages, Hanyu Chinese School, we offer you personalized Korean classes. Some of the advantages that our academy offers you is its online courses to study from the comfort of your home, at the time that suits you best. You can contact your teacher after classes to clear any doubts. And lessons can be recorded if you want, so you can re-watch them as many times as you need.

There is no doubt: this is the time to learn Korean. And you have the opportunity to learn the language at your fingertips! Take the chance, you will not regret it!
